2020 Kitchen and Bath Design Predictions

Interior design experts recently gave input on design trends for kitchens and bathrooms expected for 2020. Trends include requests for semi-open kitchen spaces to hide messes but still allow for interaction with other areas of the home. Older homes are being modified to include large kitchen islands to accommodate entertaining and conversation, while appliances are being hidden behind cabinets resembling furniture with hidden hardware and lift-up cabinets. Style trends still favor shaker cabinetry for kitchens, but designers also see bold color, slab doors and walnut/black combinations playing a role in 2020.

Clients are requesting larger, sanctuary-style bathrooms, and both contemporary floating and furniture-style vanities will be popular this year. A mixture of open and closed storage options is trending, as well as customized storage with rollouts and pull-outs, similar to kitchen cabinetry. Natural and matte wood finishes will be prominent, while all-white bathrooms seem to be losing appeal. See Forbes Residential Kitchen Trends and Forbes Residential Bath Trends
