IKEA Parent Company Continues Buying U.S. Forestland

IKEA parent company, Ingka Group, recently announced the purchase of 42,000 acres of forestland in the Piney Woods of East Texas. This acquisition follows closely on the heels of another purchase of 18,000 acres in Southeast Oklahoma.  When combined with the previously owned 64,000 acres across several states in the southeast, Ingka Groups now owns over 120,000 acres of U.S. forestland.  The company’s stated goal is to ensure a sustainable source of responsibly managed wood for its furniture in the future. IKEA has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council for its forestry management “to ensure responsible forest management of its properties.”  See Dallas Morning News
