U.S. Housing Starts Post Mixed Results in September

U.S. housing starts in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.26 million, down 9.4% from the revised August estimate, but 1.6% higher than the comparable month last year.  Single-family housing starts rose 0.3% from July to 918,000.

U.S. building permits in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.39 million, decreasing 2.7% from the previous month, but up 7.7% from September 2018.  Single-family authorizations were 0.8% higher than August at 882,000.  See U.S. Census Bureau
