U.S. Furniture Factory Orders Increase in July

U.S. residential furniture factory orders in July rose 6% from the comparable month last year but were down 2% from the year-to-date total in 2018, according to a recent survey of manufacturers and distributors. Only 53% of survey respondents recorded increased orders compared to July 2018, and 67% reported lower orders year-to-date.

Shipments of residential furniture increased 1% from July 2018, ending a 5-month decline.  When compared to the prior month, however, shipments were down 12%, but this decline is considered normal due to the July 4th holiday shutdown. See Smith Leonard
