Canadian Building Permits Fall in May

Canadian building permits in May totaled $8.2 billion (CAD), 13% lower than April and down 1.9% from the comparable month in 2018.  Residential authorizations decreased 17.2% from April to $5.0 billion.  Single-family homes increased 1.8% from April to $2.3 billion but were 8.3% lower than May 2018.  Multi-family homes dropped 28.5% from April to $2.7 billion and were down 11.8% from the same period last year.  Non-residential building permits decreased 5.7% to $3.3 billion in May but were 14% higher than the prior year.  See Statistics Canada
