Canadian Building Permits Decline in March

Canadian building permits in March totaled $8.1 billion (CAD), 2.1% higher than February but down 2.4% from the comparable month in 2018.  Residential authorizations decreased 1.5% from February to $4.8 billion.  Single-family homes fell 5% from February to $2.0 billion and 14.2% lower than March 2018.  Multi-family homes rose 1.3% from February to $2.8 billion but were down 4.2% from the same period last year.  Non-residential building permits grew 7.9% to $3.3 billion in March and were 8.5% higher than the prior year.  See Statistics Canada
