Housing Starts Down in U.S.

U.S. housing starts in March were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.14 million, 0.3% lower than the revised February estimate and down 14.2% from the comparable month in 2018.  Single-family starts were down 0.4% from February to 785,000.

Building permits in March were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.27 million, falling 1.7% from the revised February rate and dropping 7.8% from the same time last year.  Single-family authorizations in March were 808,000, down 1.1% from the revised February totals. See U.S. Census Bureau
