WTO Softwood Lumber Ruling Favors U.S.

The World Trade organization (WTO) ruled this week in favor of the U.S. allowing the use of “zeroing” to calculate antidumping duties on softwood lumber products imported from Canada. The latest ruling, prompted by a challenge from Canada, allows the U.S. to continue using a method of calculating duties that zeroes out rather than offsets the amount when an American product is priced higher than a Canadian product, resulting in higher assessed duties.  See Woodworking Network and CBC
