Canadian Building Permits Decline in February

Canadian building permits in February totaled $7.8 billion (CAD), 5.7% lower than January and down 6.8% from the comparable month in 2018.  Residential authorizations decreased 8.5% from January to $4.9 billion, the lowest level since April 2017.   Single-family homes rose 4% from January to $2.2 billion but dropped 16.2% from February 2018.  Multi-family homes fell 16.4% from January to $2.7 billion and were down 1.8% from the same period last year.  Non-residential building permits dipped 0.5% to $3 billion in February and were 3.4% lower than the prior year.  See Statistics Canada
