U.S. Housing Starts Up in January
U.S. housing starts in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.23 million, up 18.6% from the revised December 2018 estimate but 7.8% lower than the comparable month in 2018. Single-family housing starts rose 25.1% from December to 926,000.
Building permits in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.35 million, increasing 1.4% from the revised December rate but dropping 1.5% from the same time last year. Single-family authorizations decreased 2.1% from the prior month to 812,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
