U.S. Housing Starts Up in October

U.S. housing starts in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.2 million, up 1.5% above the revised September estimate, but 2.9% below the comparable month in 2017. Single‐family housing starts fell 1.8% from September to 865,000.

Building permits in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.3 million, down 0.6% from the revised September rate and 6% lower than the year-ago period. Single‐family authorizations decreased 0.6% from the prior month to 849,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
