U.S. Construction Spending Rises in August

August U.S. construction spending was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.3 trillion, rising 0.1% above the revised July estimate and up 6.5% above the comparable month last year. Year-to-date spending increased 5.3% to $862 billion from the same period in 2017.

Private construction spending fell 0.5% below July at $1.0 trillion. Residential levels were $548.9 billion, dipping 0.7% below July totals, and nonresidential totals were down 0.2% at $452.9 billion below the previous month. See U.S. Census Bureau
