CPA Supports Career & Technical Education Bill

CPA signed onto a broad industry coalition letter sent today to Senate leadership calling for reauthorization of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) Act.  The Act, first authorized in 1984 and reauthorized in 1990, 1998 and 2006, provides important funding and program support for career and technical education programs throughout the U.S.  The House of Representatives unanimously passed a version of a Perkins CTE reauthorization in 2017.

The letter calls on the Senate to follow the House’s lead in passing the reauthorization bill, focusing in particular on directing funding and attention to:

  • Align CTE programs to the needs of the regional, state and local labor market;

  • Support effective and meaningful collaboration between secondary and postsecondary institutions and employers;

  • Increase student participation in work-based learning opportunities; and

  • Promote the use of industry recognized credentials and other recognized postsecondary credentials.

CPA will continue to follow the bill’s progress and report on significant updates.  See Coalition Letter.  More Info: Jackson Morrill
