U.S. Housing Starts Down in August

U.S. housing starts in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.18 million, down 0.8% from the revised July estimate but 1.4% higher than the comparable month last year. Single-family housing starts rose 1.6% from July to 851,000.

U.S. building permits in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.3 million, 5.7% above July and 8.3% higher than the same month in 2016. Single-family authorizations fell 1.5% below the revised July figure to 800,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
