EPA Extends Key Deadline for 2015 Ozone Standard

Yesterday, U.S. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt informed state governors that the agency will extend by one year the deadline for promulgating initial area designations under the 2015 ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).  This is welcome relief for manufacturing facilities in potential nonattainment areas, which would have faced increased regulatory burdens and development restrictions for that area’s failure to meet the 70 ppb standard.  EPA has committed to work with states to provide greater flexibility to comply with the ozone standard.  The agency will also closely review the 2015 standard and examine the air attainment decision-making process to ensure going forward it is based on the latest and best available information.  See EPA Press Release
