Trump Administration Announces New Tariffs on Canadian Softwood Lumber Imports

On April 24, the Commerce Department announced an affirmative preliminary determination to set a countervailing duty (CVD) of 3% to 24% on softwood lumber imports from Canada.  Customs and Border Patrol will be instructed to require cash deposits based on these preliminary rates, and penalties would be collected retroactively dating back 90 days.  To remain in effect, these preliminary duties need to be finalized by the Commerce Department based on verification of the information provided to the Department for the preliminary ruling, comments by the parties and further analysis.  The Department is scheduled to announce its final CVD determination on September 7, 2017.  See Department of Commerce Fact Sheet
