Trump Advisor: Canada Has “Special Status” Related to NAFTA Changes

U.S. President Trump advisor, Stephen Schwarzman, stated earlier this week that Canada has a "very special status" and would not be deeply impacted by future NAFTA negotiations. The statement was made after Schwarzman, Chair of Trump’s Strategic and Policy Forum, met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Calgary, where the Prime Minister was meeting with his cabinet to discuss U.S relations.  Approximately 75% of Canadian exports are destined for the U.S.

Trump is scheduled to meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to discuss trade, immigration and security issues, on January 31.  See Reuters and The Washington Post
