May U.S. Furniture Orders Grow Month-over-Month

U.S. residential furniture factory orders in May were $2.23 billion, down 2.8% from the comparable month last year but up 0.7% from April. Year-to-date new orders increased 5.3% compared to the first five months of 2023.

Furniture shipments decreased 4.5% from last May to $2.23 billion but rose 1.3% from April. Backlogs were $2.68 billion, shrinking 6.7% from May 2023 and 0.1% from the prior month. See Smith Leonard
