May Furniture Orders Up

U.S. residential furniture factory orders in May were up 47% above the comparable month in 2020, when many manufacturers were closed due to COVID-19. Year-to-date orders were up 67% over the first five months of 2020 and 36% higher than the comparable period in 2019.

Furniture shipments rose 64% over May 2020 and year-to-date totals increased 43% from the same period last year. With new orders still outpacing shipments, backlogs climbed 3% from April and soared 214% higher than the previous year. See Smith Leonard
