U.S. construction spending in March reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $2.19 trillion, reflecting a 0.6% improvement from February and a 1.6% increase year-over-year.
Total public and private residential spending grew 1.6% month over month and 3.5% from March 2025 to $941.70 billion. Nonresidential spending totaled $1.24 trillion, dipping 0.2 from February but increasing 0.2% from the same month in 2025. Private construction spending rose 0.8% from February and 1.0% from March 2025, totaling $1.66 trillion.
Educational construction spending was $138.76 billion, down 0.4% from the prior month but up 1.8% from March 2025. Healthcare construction spending edged up 0.1% from February and 2.2% year-over- year to $70.19 billion.
