U.S. housing starts reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.24 million in July, falling 12.4% from June and down 13.5% from the comparable month in 2025. Single-family starts declined 9.9% from June to 808,000.
U.S. building permits rose to a 1.44 million annual rate in July, climbing 5.0% from the prior month and up 3.1% year-over-year. Single-family authorizations increased 2.5% from June to 894,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
