U.S. housing starts in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.31 million, dropping 4.5% from December 2022 and 21.4% lower than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts decreased 4.3% from December to 841,000.
U.S. building permits in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.34 million, growing 0.1% from December but falling 27.3% from the same month in 2022. Single-family authorizations were down 1.8% from December to 718,000 in January. See U.S. Census Bureau
