U.S. housing starts in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.37 million, declining 9.8% from December 2024 and 0.7% lower than the comparable month in 2024. Single-family starts fell 8.4% to 993,000 in January.
U.S. building permits were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.48 million, increasing .01% from December but dipping 1.7% from January 2024. Single-family authorizations were nearly even with December at 996,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
