U.S. residential furniture factory orders in January rose 27% above the comparable month in 2020 with nearly 77% of manufacturers reporting increases, according to a recent survey of manufacturers and distributors. Orders were down 2% from December 2020.

Furniture shipments increased 7% over January 2020 but were down 5% from December 2020. With new orders exceeding shipments, backlogs continued to climb, registering 177% higher than January 2020 and 2% higher than December. See Smith Leonard
