January Construction Spending Up Year-over-Year

U.S. construction spending in January was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $2.19 trillion, down 0.2% from December 2024 but 3.3% higher than the same month in 2024.

Private spending dipped 0.2% to $1.69 trillion in January compared to December. Residential expenditures decreased 0.4% to $932.7 billion, and non-residential expenditures were $753.3 billion, mostly unchanged from the prior month.

Educational construction spending in the private and public sectors totaled $134.7 billion, down 0.6% from the previous month but climbing 6.9% from January 2024. Construction spending on healthcare was $69.3 billion, growing 0.6% from December but declining 0.7% from the comparable month in 2024.
