Canadian building permits in January totaled $13.3 billion, up 4.8% from December 2025 and 4.2% higher than January 2025.
Residential authorizations rose 1.8% from December to $8.0 billion, while falling 9.4% below year-ago levels. Single family permits improved 8.9% month-over-month but fell 7.9% year- over-year to $2.7 billion. Multi-family permits decreased 1.5% from the month prior and were down 10.1% from January 2025 to $5.3 billion.
Non-residential permits totaled $5.4 billion, up 9.4% growth from December and jumped 34.1% from January 2025. See Statistics Canada
