The monthly standalone seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of Canadian housing starts in April was 278,606 units, 30.0% higher than March. The SAAR of urban starts in April increased 28.2% from the previous month to 259,788. Multiple urban starts soared 34.2% to 214,497, and single-family levels were 45,291, up 5.8% compared to March. The six-month trend in housing starts grew 2.4% to 240,905 units in April.
