Mr. Salazar has over 15 years’ experience working with the wood products industry and has developed hundreds of environmental product declarations (EPDs) as well as sector-specific life cycle analysis (LCA) for a range of construction products. The Production-Technical Committee has invited Mr. Salazar to educate CPA members on the mission and activities of the Athena Institute. The presentation will also cover trends in LCA, EPDs and carbon neutrality. Mr. Salazar will also introduce a new CPA-commissioned research project to collect end of life (EOL) carbon disposition data from finished products made with composite panels. The EOL project will generate scientific-based data of embodied and embedded carbon beyond the cradle-to-gate LCA information previously documented for particleboard, MDF, hardboard and engineered wood siding and trim.

Weyerhaeuser will present its 2021 CPA Safety Innovation Award winning initiative, “Stairway to Safety” during the Production-Technical Committee meeting. The initiative was an engineered solution to mitigate a fall hazard that was present when employees accessed the inside of a loaded box car to secure units for shipment. The stairway to safety, a collaborative effort between the mill personnel and fall protection industry experts, is a ladder system that not only virtually eliminates the two fall hazards but is designed to be mobile and compact when not in use.

Ms. Abrams has more than 10 years of sustainability experience and 20 years in brand management, market research and finance. She was named a hospitality industry innovator by Lodging Magazine and has been recognized by Wharton’s Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership, Cornell’s Hospitality Research Summit and is a recipient of CIO Review Magazine’s 20 Most Promising Supply Chain Tech Solution Providers. Ms. Abrams will discuss the increasing importance of design and construction Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) business practices to investors, financial institutions and occupants of the built environment. The real estate and building products industries are faced with challenges and opportunities to meet ESG objectives despite no standard definitions. Ms. Abrams will share insights on the current state of ESG along with MindClick’s Design for Health tool that creates a single environmental reporting rating system for architects and designers to identify and specify sustainable building products for interior spaces.
