EPA will host a virtual meeting on July 27 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. ET to discuss potential changes to the way the agency collects data to support risk characterizations of existing chemicals. The agency is contemplating the use of authorities under Section 8 of Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), including:
- Section 8(a)(1) where EPA may request information on a chemical’s identity, exposure during manufacturing and importing and exposure during use.
- Section 8(c) where EPA may request data on a chemical’s adverse health effects and complaints associated with occupation and environmental injury.
- Section 8(d) where EPA may require the submission of health and safety studies, both published and unpublished.
EPA is anticipated to explain further how, when and why the agency may utilize these authorities to collect additional data from stakeholders. The meeting is open to the public and registration is required to participate. See EPA.
