EPA Issues Grant to Wood Industry to Support the Use of Low Carbon Building Materials

Last week, the EPA announced several grants to support the manufacturing and use of clean building materials. The grant funding comes through implementing the Inflation Reduction Act, a law signed by President Biden in 2022, containing several climate change-related provisions. One of the grants, totaling six million dollars, was issued to the American Wood Council (AWC) to support the growth of a wood industry sector program for the development of lifecycle inventory data, which will then be used to support the development of wood product lifecycle assessments, environmental product declarations, and more. CPA was among a group of wood industry associations that were partners to the AWC grant proposal. CPA members and member products will benefit directly from this project.
