CPA is pleased to announce the publication of updated industry-wide environmental product declarations (EPDs) and accompanying life cycle assessment (LCA) reports for particleboard and medium density fiberboard (MDF) manufactured in the U.S. and Canada. Based on life cycle inventory (LCI) data, LCAs are a comprehensive measurement of a product’s environmental impacts. EPDs provide a summary of the LCI data that can be used to compare alternative products.
The EPDs and LCAs were developed by the Consortium for Research on Renewable Industrial Materials (CORRIM), are verified by ASTM International, and conform to ISO 21930:2017. The EPDs have worldwide applicability and include information about product environmental impacts. These include the use of resources, global warming potential, emissions to air, soil, and water, and waste generation.
For the first time, these composite panel EPDs contain cradle-to-grave data for “end-of-life.” End-of-life information represents the collection, recovery, deconstruction, disposal method, and associated transportation LCI data for each activity.
The EPDs are valid for five years and replace the cradle-to-gate versions published in 2018. See EPDs and LCAs. More Info: Gary Heroux
