CPA Meets with Health Canada on Formaldehyde Rule

CPA met with Health Canada on Friday, June 3 to discuss an alternative approach to the declaration recordkeeping requirements that would overly burden fabricators and retailers when complying with the Canadian formaldehyde regulation beginning January 7, 2023.  To address those issues, representatives from Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA), the American Home Furnishing Alliance (AHFA) and the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) were also in attendance.  CPA presented an “Alternative Declaration Approach” that would use web-based tools to reference declarations for panels associated with finished goods either imported into, or manufactured in, Canada.  Health Canada was receptive to the proposal with minor concerns that were not insurmountable.   Health Canada plans to consult internally on the proposal and respond back to CPA regarding next steps in the coming weeks.  More Info:  Andy O’Hare
