CPA Joins Effort to Retain Existing Particulate Matter Ambient Standard

This week, CPA joined 52 manufacturing associations in support of a Congressional resolution to oppose a recently updated EPA rule that reduces National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for fine particulate matter (PM2.5). If implemented, the new standard will make obtaining a clean air permit much more difficult, limiting the potential expansion of U.S. manufacturing capacity. Manufacturers have made considerable progress over the past few decades towards reducing particulate matter emissions. Only 16% of national emissions today are associated with industrial operations and manufacturing. Over 80% come from forest fires and other non-point sources, such as dust from rural roads. Further reducing emissions associated with manufacturing will not impact these non-point source emissions. See Congressional Letter. More Info: Andy O’Hare
