CPA Grademark Certification Program

CPA Grademark Certification Program (GM Program) requires that products be periodically tested for compliance to government regulations or voluntary product standards.  The GM Program also requires that a mill’s quality control system meet strict criteria for personnel, procedures, and facilities.

GM Program places a premium on in-plant quality control programs affecting personnel, laboratory techniques, and recordkeeping. Each program has a quality assurance manual that contains the procedures for conducting the necessary work. The CPA audits the mills periodically for its capability and competence to conduct the necessary work of the program.

Eco-Certified CompositeTM (ECC) Grademark Certification Program

The CPA 4-11 Eco-Certified CompositeTM (ECC) Sustainability Standard is the voluntary industry standard for manufacturers of composite wood or agrifiber-based panels, as well as finished products (including components and laminated panels) made with particleboard, medium density fiberboard (MDF), hardboard, engineered wood siding and engineered wood trim.  The standard focuses on life cycle inventory and other verifiable environmental practices and highlights the responsible use of wood fiber by composite panel manufacturers. The basis of the standard includes the CPA Carbon Calculator, a tool developed by a third-party expert to assess the life cycle and carbon footprint of composite panels made at a particular manufacturing plant.

Formaldehyde Emissions Grademark Certification Program

The CPA Formaldehyde Emissions Grademark Certification Program (HCHO Program) has been developed to provide independent certification of formaldehyde emission levels from wood panel products. The HCHO Program includes requirements for initial qualification for product certification, plant quality control procedures and periodic inspections by CPA--all designed to reasonably assure that certified unfinished (including sanded) composite panel products meet the emission limits specified in applicable regulations (e.g. CARB ATCM 93120) or standards (e.g. ANSI A208.1 Particleboard and ANSI A208.2 Medium Density Fiberboard for Interior Applications).

Although the HCHO Program was originally developed in response to, and designed to meet, the certification requirements of the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards, 24 C.F.R. Part 3280, it can be used to certify conformance of different types of panel products to different government regulations or voluntary industry standards which CPA decides to include in the HCHO Program.

Engineered Wood Siding and Trim Grademark Certification Program

The CPA Engineered Wood Siding and Trim Grademark Certification Program (EWST Program) objectives are to maintain the quality of production of the industry and to provide a means by which the public can have greater assurance of obtaining a dependable product adequate for its needs. The EWST Program involves the licensing of producers of engineered wood siding and trim to use the "CPA certified" logo in connection with those products that are tested by an independent testing laboratory and found to meet at least the requirements in ANSI 135.6 Engineered Wood Siding, A135.7 Engineered Wood Trim, and building or residential codes.

Physical and Mechanical Properties Grademark Certification Program

The CPA Physical and Mechanical Properties Grademark Certification Program (PMP Program) has been developed to provide independent certification of physical and mechanical properties from wood panel products.  The PMP Program includes requirements for the in house Quality Control Manuals, initial qualification for product certification, plant quality control procedures and periodic inspections by CPA, all designed to reasonably assure that composite panel products meet the  limits specified in the applicable standards (e.g ANSI A208.1 Particleboard).

Although the Program was originally developed in response to the certification requirements of the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards, 24 C.F.R. Part 3280, it may be used to certify conformance of different types of panel products to different government regulatis or voluntary industry standards which CPA decides to include in the PMP Program.

Mill Specification

The Mill Specificatio Program can certify formaldehyde emissions, and physical and mechanical properties to mill specifications/mill standards to assist mills in meeting specific customer needs and product requirements. CPA will certify to mill specifications using the existing HCHO, EWST and PMP Program quality assurance manuals which are based on sound and widely accepted quality assurance and certification practices.
