Canadian Building Permits Surge in April

Canadian building permits in April were up 20.5% from March to $12.8 billion (CAD) and rose 27.9% from the comparable period in 2023. Residential authorizations increased 21.0% from March and 25.7% from April 2023 to $8.0 billion. Single-family totals were $2.6 billion, improving 2.4% from March and 3.8% from April 2023. Multi-family levels reached $5.4 billion in April, soaring 32.6% from March and 39.9% from the same month last year. Non-residential permits grew 19.6% from the prior month and 31.8% from April 2023 to $4.8 billion.
