Canadian Building Permits Soften in November

In November 2023, Canadian building permits were down 3.9% to $10.9 billion (CAD) from October and decreased 4.2% from the comparable period in 2022. Residential authorizations dipped 2.8% from October and 2.2% from November 2022 to $7.0 billion. Single-family totals reached $2.8 billion, mostly unchanged from October but 3.6% lower than last year. Multi-family levels were $4.1 billion in November, declining 4.7% from October and 1.2% from the previous year. Non-residential permits fell 5.8% from the prior month and 7.6% from November 2022 to $3.9 billion.
