Canadian Building Permits Increase in August

Canadian building permits in August rose 11.9% from July to $12.5 billion (CAD) and were 24.5% higher than the year-ago period. Residential authorizations climbed 12% from July to $8.4 billion and grew 29.8% from August 2021. Single-family totals reached $3.6 billion, up 0.4% from July and were 12.2% greater than the prior year. Multi-family levels improved 22.2% from July to $4.9 billion and surged 46.6% from the previous year. See Statistics Canada
