Canadian building permits totaled $11.9 billion (CAD) in July, 0.1% lower than June and 4.9% below the comparable month last year. Residential authorizations increased 3.8% from June but declined 4.0% year-over-year to $7.3 billion. Single-family permits totaled $2.6 billion, growing 5.9% from the prior month but down 3.0% from July 2024. Multi-family levels were $4.7 billion, 2.7% higher than June but decreasing 4.5% from the same month last year.
