On August 10, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) launched three forest products sector innovation funding programs, including Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT). Selected IFIT projects receive up to $10 million as a non-repayable contribution towards innovative technologies or products, sector decarbonization and improvements in resource use efficiency.
Other funding opportunities include the Green Construction through Wood (GCWood) program to encourage the use of wood-based building technologies and low-carbon construction materials in infrastructure projects, and the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre’s (CWFC) Forest Innovation Program for research focused on wood fiber characteristics and supplies across the Canadian forest sector.
IFIT and GCWood are accepting project applications on an ongoing basis until June 30, 2024, and the CWFC deadline is September 15, 2023. NRCan will offer informational webinars to review the application process. See Canada Funding Program Announcement and IFIT. More Info: Kevin Warkentin
