U.S. housing starts in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.36 million, increasing 9.6% from July and 3.9% higher than the comparable month last year. Single-family starts grew 15.8% to 992,000 in August.
U.S. building permits were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.48 million, climbing 4.9% from July but down 6.5% from August 2023. Single-family authorizations rose 2.8% from July to 967,000. See U.S. Census Bureau
