August Architectural Billings Remain Weak

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Economics & Market Research Group’s Architecture Billings Index (ABI) increased 1.0 point to 47.2 in August, while design contracts dipped 0.7 points to 47.2. Project inquiries exceeded 50 for the fourth consecutive month, but billings remained below 50 in all sectors except commercial at 50.8, suggesting continued difficulties in converting queries. Billings in all regions were under 50 for the eighth straight ABI. A score above 50 indicates growth. See AIA
