Architectural Billings Unchanged in August

The Architecture Billings Index (ABI) in August was unchanged for the third straight month at 40.0, according to The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Economics & Market Research Group. Design contracts improved for the first time since February, rising 4.3 points in August to 46.0.

August billings stabilized across all regions, except for the Northeast which still reported sluggish business conditions due to the pandemic. Firms specializing in multi-family residential work nearly reached positive territory at 49.4, while commercial/industrial specialty firms declined and remained well below positive territory.
