Architectural Billings Index Improves in May

The May Architecture Billings Index (ABI) rose 2.5 points to 51, according to The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Economics & Market Research Group. A score above 50 indicates growth in billings, while a score below means a decline in firm billings. Design contracts also grew 2.5 points from 49.8 in April to 52.3.

May billings were below 50 in all geographic regions except the South. The Institutional sector experienced an increase in billings with a score of 53.4, while the Commercial/Industrial and Residential sectors fell from April and remained below 50. See AIA
