U.S. construction spending in April reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $2.17 trillion, improving 0.4% from March and 0.9% year-over-year.
Total public and private residential spending grew 0.8% month-over-month and 1.7% from April 2025 to $922.04 billion. Non-residential spending totaled $1.25 trillion, increasing 0.1% from March and 0.3% from the same month in 2025. Private construction spending rose 0.4% from March but was unchanged from April 2025, totaling $1.64 trillion.
Educational construction spending was $139.63 billion, 0.6% above the prior month and strengthening 2.1% from April 2025. Healthcare construction spending edged up 0.4% from March and 2.9% year-over- year to $70.65 billion.
