The 2026 U.S. Houzz & Home Study: Renovation Trends report surveyed 20,358 homeowners. Consistent with 2024, 54% of surveyed homeowners renovated in 2025, while 52% decorated compared with 54% in the prior year. Kitchens remained the most popular room to renovate at 26% of respondents, with guest bathrooms at 25% and primary bathrooms totaling 23%. Median kitchen renovation spend in 2025 increased by 9.1% from 2024 to $24,000. Guest bathroom median totals rose 16.7% last year to $7,000, and primary bathroom spend grew 15.4% to $15,000 from the year prior. Large and small furniture purchases were made by 39% of respondents, and 33% bought storage or organizational products.
Baby Boomers remained the largest share of renovating homeowners in 2025 at 54%, a 5-percentage point decrease from 2024, while Gen X was up 5 percentage points to 34%. Seniors spent the most on renovations, with a median spend of $25,000, slightly above Gen X at $24,000.
Looking ahead to 2026, 50% of homeowners surveyed plan to undertake renovation projects, and 41% plan to decorate. The planned median spend is $15,000, a 25% decrease from 2025. See 2026 Houzz & Home Study
