U.S. Building Permits Fall in May

U.S. housing starts in May were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.092 million, down 5.5% from the revised April rate and 2.4% below the comparable month in 2016. Single-family starts decreased 3.9% from the previous month to 826,000.

Building permits in May totaled a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.168 million, 4.9% below the revised April rate and 0.8% lower than the same period a year earlier.  Single-family authorizations were down 1.9% from April to 779,000.  See U.S. Census Bureau
