Cal/OSHA Rejects Wood Dust Proposal

On January 19, the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) Standards Board voted not to accept a staff proposal to lower the existing permissible exposure limit (PEL) for wood dust from 5 milligrams per cubic meter to 1 milligram per cubic meter.  The American Wood Council (AWC), working in conjunction with CPA and a coalition of other trade associations, presented testimony opposing the proposal to lower the PEL limit based on feasibility issues and scientific evidence.  CPA has supported AWC throughout this year long process, and will continue to be engaged as Cal/OSHA looks to reinitiate rulemaking on wood dust in 2017.  More Info: Gary Heroux
